FIJEV highlights the evolution of FENAVIN, which, on its third edition, is already amongst the best in the world.
Some twenty journalists from eleven countries gathered in FENAVIN to hold the annual assembly of the Federación Internacional de Periodistas y Escritores del Vino y Espirituosos (International Federation of Wine and Spirituous Beverage Journalists and Writers) - (FIJEV), a professional body which considers the National Wine Fair as its headquarters in our country as explained by its vice-president, María Isabel Mijares, oenologist and internationally famous wine taster, who is also main technical adviser in Wine Projects for the UN.
For Mijares, FENAVIN is not only a business and professional fair, which in itself is important enough, it is also a meeting point which turns it into the appropriate place for journalists from all over the world to meet.
As for the president of the Federation, the Belgian, Louis Havaux, he wanted to highlight the positive evolution of the National Wine Fair from the last edition to the present one and he ranked it as one of the best wine fairs in the world.
FIJEV is made up of national journalist associations from the sector and journalists in a personal capacity in countries where there is no association. Its vice-president explains the objective of the Federation is to gather journalists from all over the world to facilitate contact between them and, at the same time, with other professionals of the sector.
This way, FIJEV wants to be the channel for the business people, winemakers, appellations, or professionals related to the wine sector, when they want to prepare an event whose reaching scope goes beyond their frontier. Through the federation they can locate the specialized journalists without resorting to complicated means.
During the assembly, there were discussions about activities to be carried out during the year, such as the next General Assembly which will be held in Bordeaux, apart from dealing with the way media work, study which services the Federation can offer the sector or the discrepancy with the French association, which, according to Mijares, is somewhat unhappy about the growth of the Federation and thinks that it should be predominantly French, a view not shared by the other members of the Federation. As Mijares explains, Spain is number one in production area, third in terms of production and among the first three in terms of quality.
