President Barreda has cut the inaugural ribbon at the fourth edition of the National Trade Fair on Wine

07.05.2007 |

Nemesio de Lara, President of the National Trade Fair on Wine and of the Provincial Government of Ciudad Real, has requested today that we fully support the Common Market Organization (CMO) on Wine, the same during the institutional event that has taken place at the Ciudad Real Trade Fair Pavilion with reason of FENAVIN's inauguration. José María Barreda, President of the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha, has also been present; along with the Vice President of the European Parliament, Miguel Ángel Martínez and the Ambassador of Japan in Spain, Ken Shimanouchi, amongst many other politicians, mayors, parliament members and provincial delegates.

De Lara has said that we are currently assuming different challenges within the bosom of the wine sector, qualifying the debate as "a great goal" to which we are being subjected in relationship with the CMO". He has assured that "never before has unanimity and consensus of the entire sector, here - in the region - and elsewhere - in the rest of Spain - been as necessary as it is right now".

"Due to economic, social, environmental, cultural and historical reasons, we must work, fight and, above all reach a consensus on an excellent CMO, that everybody is happy with", he has said.

On his part, Barreda has specified that concerning the future CMO on Wine, "Castilla-La Mancha must hold a leading role, directing the negotiations so that what is finally decided will not go against our interests". He has recalled that the Minister of Agriculture herself, Elena Espinosa, "has quite clearly said that this region must hold the starring role in the negotiations for the new CMO". Barreda has also indicated that Espinosa is quite aware of the existence of FENAVIN, "and she has transmitted that I should underline her absolute support".

In view of the prominence that the region must assume in the CMO on Wine, Barreda concedes special importance to FENAVIN. "Holding the trade fair in Castilla-La Mancha and in Ciudad Real is a wonderful idea so that it will be a reference for all, but on top of that so the reference will be our region and our city. This is also important for obvious reasons", he commented, to then continue by congratulating "all those who have made it possible to celebrate this trade fair with growing success year after year".

Moreover, in this sense he has made special mention to the fair's President, Nemesio de Lara, and to its Director, Manuel Juliá, "coordinated by Ángel Amador, Institutional Coordinator, who is an excellent manager".

More promotion, more commercialization

After commenting that FENAVIN is Ciudad Real and Castilla-La Mancha's trade fair for Spain and the world, De Lara has also mentioned that another challenge that is still pending is to put a halt on the drop in consumption, likewise mentioning a third matter, "historical and eternal, which is that pertaining to assigning more resources to commercialization". "Not much is ever assigned to promotion, resources in this sense are always scarce", he has added.

De Lara has explained that years ago, Antonio Salinas, Regional Parliament Member, had already commented that celebrating the National Trade Fair on Wine in Castilla-La Mancha and in Ciudad Real would be a good idea. Adding that when he took over office in July of 1999, he decided to make this idea his own "and skipping over the preliminaries that the previous fairs have been, here we are, FENAVIN represents the circumstance that if there is a will, there is a way".

FENAVIN's President has said that the intention behind the fair is "to make business, and I would like to apologize to all those who have been unable to come because we have not prepared the agendas in such a way that they can come and visit in their free time. However, seriousness must prevail so that all possible opportunities will be provided to the professionals that are here to purchase and to the exhibitors that are here to sell. The fair is for them and with the trade fair we are benefiting all of Castilla-La Mancha and the nation's population that depends on wine". Notwithstanding, anybody who wishes to visit the trade fair can also do so in the afternoon.

On the other hand, he has also expressed his appreciation to Barreda for his support of FENAVIN. "He was one of its wholehearted promoters from the very beginning", he has said. And he has also thanked all those who have collaborated with financing and sponsorship of the event, "and of course the Chamber of Commerce, the IPEX, the wineries, the cooperatives, the purchasers who have visited, the professionals in general, the associations, the agricultural organizations and, above all, the vine-growers".

"If I am to be completely honest about the cause that generated this fair, then I must mention that the cause resides in the support to the vine-growers, to those producing the grape, those who are working the land, those who are stomping on the grapes, those working on the vines with the pruning shears, those who, altogether, endure the problems related with wine", he has pointed out.

And he has also highlighted the Institutional Coordinator, Ángel Amador's presence and active and permanent collaboration, and likewise FENAVIN's Director, Manuel Juliá's perseverance, and likewise that of the entire team and the services of the Provincial Government.
