Likewise, "we will discuss the way the International Union of Oenologists works internally; training of the oenologist at University level and its standardization with all the countries as well as the grape and wine growing in regards to the genetically modified organs" explains Mr. Sánchez Migallón.
INTERNATIONAL UNION OF OENOLOGISTS
The international Union of Oenologists is the body that gathers the national associations of professionals from the grape and wine growing countries. Oenologists in the Union amount to some 20.000 who carry out their work in over 12.000 wineries in 15 countries.
The objectives of this association answer the need to represent the national organizations of oenologists all around the world and to contribute to the progress of the grape and wine industry worldwide. The association also endeavors to defend the interests of the professionals, fighting against the unfair use of oenologist degrees and, therefore, against unfair competition.
The U.I.E. (Unión Internacional de Enólogos), International Union of Oenologists, acts as a link of connection and solidarity between the various associations, both on a humane and professional level. In that respect, it represents a decisive factor when standardizing the wine-making procedures and the methods of analysis, be it either chemical, microbiological or sensory. In the same way, it establishes policies for professional training and re-training for oenologists from different countries, standardizing the syllabi, the duration of the courses and the issue of diplomas.
The International Union of Oenologists accepts as a member one international association per country, as long as it is legally set up and it is considered the most representative of the nation. All official documents of the I.U.O., including its statute and internal regulations, are translated into the languages of the member states.
FEAE (Spanish Federation of Oenologists' Associations) IN DEFENSE OF THE OENOLOGISTS' INTERESTS
The Federación Española de Asociaciones de Enólogos (FEAE) - Spanish Federation of Oenologists' Associations - , created in 1993 in Vilafranca de Penedès, replacing the previous Asociación Española de Enólogos - Spanish Oenologists' Association - aims at representing and defending the professional interests of the oenologists, as well as promoting the development and progress of the grape producing and wine making activities for its associates. FEAE's objective is also to achieve the best management of common interests, representing and advising its associates whenever necessary.
The Federation is made of ten Autonomous Oenologists' Associations and is a full member of the U.I.E (Unión Internacional de Enólogos - International Union of Oenologists). It represents almost all Spanish wine-making areas.
Furthermore, the Federation of Oenologists pursues other objectives such as develop the grape and wine-growing techniques according to scientific progress in order to put them at the service of the Associates' interests and improve the vine growing, the wine-making, conservation and control of all wine products. Also, the Federation's objective is to defend the specific interests of its Associates before the various public bodies and authorities, both Governmental and territorial, before workers unions and private bodies, as well as international organizations.
